Topping Out at Sainsbury Wellcome Centre
Topping Out at Sainsbury Wellcome Centre
On the 25th of November, Rainsford Contracts celebrated the progress being made at UCL’s Sainsbury Wellcome Centre (SWC) in London with a topping ceremony.
The SWC scheme is a five-storey steel-frame extension featuring a CLT deck, fire-rated Jansen Viss curtain walling, and a Ruukki panel façade.
The extension stands independently from the existing SWC building, connected by a series of bridge links, both on the north and west elevations. These provide essential access to Labs, stairs, lifts, and key service connections.
The new building is unique and complex as it is entirely landlocked and has been constructed without the use of a crane, utilising the surrounding scaffolding and a Niko rail system for all lifting and installation activities.
Paul Dennis, Managing Director, Rainsford Contracts said “What a great team effort to get to this key milestone. A massive thank you to everyone involved in bringing the project to this stage. We now look forward to shaping the final vision as we progress with the façade, roofing, and internal fit-out works”
